The Mystery of the Black Stuff

By admin, August 14, 2008 11:09 pm

There is quite a mystery regarding the black stuff on Kerri Walsh’s shoulder while playing volleyball during the Olympics, but it was no mystery to me, I immediately recognized it as Kinesiotape which we use in my office on a regular basis. I’m sure most patients think, “this doctor Swanson is off his rocker how could this tape possible benefit me?”.

Let it be known that patients in my office receive the same treatment as Olympic athletes and Lance Armstrong!

Because of their unique education and specialized clinical skills in areas of fundamental importance to sports performance and injury, chiropractors are now seen as and integral part of the core sports medicine team by most elite athletes and their coaches. There will be more chiropractors at the Olympic Games in Beijing China this year than ever before.

In North America baseball, basketball, football and hockey franchises in the MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL all have team chiropractors.

The chiropractor in working with athletes has a broad diagnostic and therapeutic role. Of primary concern to athletes are the three main roles of the chiropractor.

1. Managing Injury
2. Prevention of Injury
3. Improved Performance

I was happy to see Dr. Ted Forcum chosen as chiropractor for team USA, I learned the Graston Technique from Dr. Forcum, he is a truly gifted chiropractor.
